It is SO EASY to just live in a bubble and good for you for being aware of it and be willing to admit it.
I am sort of a news junkie (thanks to my husband) but there is still so much I'd like to know about what is going on in our world. And a few less minutes on facebook or on my blog would be a good time to figure those things out.
And I am sure once this kid comes (ANY DAY NOW!!), my thoughts on the world and facebook and what is REALLY important will change drastically. :-)
Yes, things will change but you'll probably still be involved and aware if you want to. I was much more news saavy when I drove to work every day and listened to the radio and talked with other adults in the staff room. Staying home with my kids has changed things a bit because I don't have the t.v on or listen to the news much and I"m guilty of just wanting to ZONE out when I do have time to read and get news. This video wasn't new news to me but it did strike a chord with me that has been different than before.
Sharing that video is such an important piece of that movement's success. The mainstream media and the government definitely work to keep certain things out of the spotlight. It is up to us to shove things like this video out there.
MY daughter and I watched it and we shared it. Our sponsor child, Mercyline, lives in Uganda. My daughter picked her a few years back because they share the same birthday and interests. I agree that the media and the government keep us blind to many things.
I watched this video this morning and it has been on my heart all day. I couldn't help but think back to the Holocaust. I know the political circumstances were different but in thd end it comes down to a very evil man taking innocent lives. I have many times thought and wondered why America waited so long to get involved in WW2 and stop Hitler. So many lives could have been saved. It's awful to think that kids are being abducted and forced into lives of murder, sex, and violence and no one is stopping this evil power. I agree. This video made me feel like we CAN do something about it. I appreciate your thoughts on this Amanda! I know I for one can get so caught up in my running/ mom bubble that I don't have a clue what's going on in the world.
Thank you! Yes, indeed we all ought to strive to find that balance… I'm still trying to find a few extra hours in the day! :) Good thoughts though, thanks! Aloha
Hi Amanda, thank you for sharing, because honestly I did not know the initiative and I am glad I know it now thanks to you! I can understand why you deleted all the text from the original post, but I liked it a lot as well. Once again thank you for sharing and for being out there!
Well, here I get up early with my coffee to come over and comment on your post.....Thanks for sharing Amanda. I did check out the video and shared it on my FB page.
I hadn't seen this video before-- what a great way to get the message out. I think we tend to feel like there's nothing we can do and this is a great reminder that our voice is powerful. It's hard to be faced with the tragedies around the world, but we can't ignore it!
It's a funny thing seeing this posted on your blog last night...My husband is a social studies teacher. He teaches AP human geography, criminal justice, Holocaust just to name a few...His students had told him about this video yesterday morning, and he had planned to show it to them today...
We watched it together last night...As the video went on, each one of my kids trickled in one by one. It was interesting to watch their reactions, listen to their questions, and see their faces while they watched. At one point my 10 year old(middle child) just placed his hands on both our shoulders... as if to say...don't let that happen to me!
Very moving...very disturbing...very real...I was moved to tears...
Oh, you need to talk to Chris, he'll get you involved. LOL. You know, there is a time for everything. When I retire, I really plan to get more involved and committed to such issues. For now, though, I have to keep my priorities straight. We donate some money because we don't have the time.
You have a tough job Amanda raising 3 little kids; no need to feel guilt for not doing more. You are already doing something by sharing the video. The time will come when you will be able to get more involved:)
i am disappointed i haven't seen any kony signs here and april 20th has already passed. this is the first i've heard of this! i really *love* washington's excuse of "it's not important to US policy.... WOW, really USG? really?
