It's Almost Go Time! And Tapping Some Creative Energy!

Two More Sleeps until the big race! Taper week really hasn't driven me crazy like I know it does to some of you.  I've enjoyed the decrease in miles, more time with my family, and not having to take off to go to the gym right when my husband gets home.  I do think the lower miles has affected my mood some. And is it normal to get sick the week of the marathon?  Because I've been fighting a cold all week.  I woke up this morning with all kinds of grossness.  But I'm not freaking out.  Just taking vitamin C, drinking lots of water, and staying calm about the whole thing.

I figure that taper week is a good time to tap into my creative energy, do some reflection and get my mind focused on my goals.  And you know what that means for Runninghood...Bring out the journals!  I have not posted a lot about my running journal lately. In fact, I have not been in much of the journaling/creative mood lately either.  I know for awhile there I was including my running journal, personal journal, marriage journal, kids journals, etc. in almost every post.  Some of you enjoyed it and were inspired by it and some of you just said "your journals make me dizzy".

My Running Journal!

Today's "Get Focused" Collage

Some Mantras I'm focusing on!

Hopefully this will help me kick this cold!

Just about to head out for this workout

Taper Week is so nice!

Signs from my kids!

My sweet 4 year old was so proud of this!  Hard to see but so special!

Ready!

Set....

Go!  Unfortunately I have to wait until Race Day to open this but I know that whatever it is will be the perfect and "just right" something to see before I race.  Thanks Dear Friend.

1. I announced the winners of the Kara Goucher book this morning.  Angela, you have no blog or e-mail for me to contact you.  If I don't hear from you in 24 hours from when I posted then I'll be moving on to the runner-up!  Hope you read this!

2.  It's Go Time!  I'm feeling excited to get everything done that needs to be done before we head out but I'm in a good spot!  Thanks for your e-mails and words of encouragement!

3.  Do you keep a journal of any kind?  Does it help you get your mind focused and clear?  What do you use it for?

Amanda

  1. I started a sort of running/fitness motivation journal/scrapbook thing a while back, but I've been pretty much failing at keeping up with it and adding things to it... I think I might have one or two pages done, that's it. LOL Hmm... I'm supposed to be resting my hip today anyway, so maybe I'll work on it today!

  2. All those weeks of hard work have paid off and it's GO time! I love all the inspirational notes to yourself and quotes from others, I know you will draw upon them out there on the course and they'll help you be strong. Trust Matt, he knows his stuff (I'd never steer you wrong) - I'll be thinking about you out there as I sludge though my bike race. Good luck, I know you're going to do so well!!

  3. You sounds so focused and ready for this! Can't wait to hear how it goes! I always get sick before big races, but it never affects my performance. You will be all better by Saturday! Can we track you for this, or there is not a tracking system? I will be virtually cheering you on and sending postive vibes your way! YOU'VE GOT THIS!

  9. Good luck! The pictures that your kids drew for you are soooo cute! I'll be thinking of you this weekend.

I've kept journals in the past. Some are sort of the form of diaries. I've also kept topic specific journals before, like the travel journal that I kept while on my Honeymoon. I haven't ever really kept a running one that's more than a basic log, but I think you have inspired me to start one this summer.

  11. GOOD LUCK!! I love love the signs from your kiddos. I had signs waiting for me when I got home and that was really sweet. You've got to be such an inspiration to your girls, especially, and a great model of a strong woman for your son.

I've kept journals since grade school, but now my blog is basically my journal. Your collages really call to me, though. One of these days I'm going to sit down and take a breath and look for my own headlines and quotes to pull from. I used to do that in high school to caption pictures we'd taken. Fun! :)

  39. Yay! Amanda's Running Journal Post. My favorite kind! Bonus, especially since I've been away for awhile.

I have ambivalent feelings about your race. First and foremost, I want you to kick booty and have a great race. But, I definitely don't want to get chicked by a skinny mother of 3 from Portland.

Fine, you win. Have an awesome race. Remember, smile and your body will follow.

  40. shoot, amanda. I thought your race was on sunday or I would have been on here sooner to wish you luck. I'm off to go find out how you did!! I'm sure you killed it!!
