Boston Tragedy Update

I've received e-mails from many of you in regards to this tragedy in Boston.  Wanted to type a quick update to let you all know that I am okay.  I was just picking up my bag from the buses when I heard the two explosions.  The explosions themselves were very scary but what was even scarier was seeing the reactions of the people around me.  Seeing people panic and run away definitely brought my fear to a new level.  The first thing everyone wanted to do was find their loved ones so it was hard to get through on our cell phones.  My heart goes out to all that have been hurt and killed.  This could have been any of us.  My husband and friends were just at the finish line minutes before the explosions.  They happened to walk into a soup shop around the time that they would have otherwise been right there.  We are now in our hotel room watching the news and staying out of the streets.  What was at first one of the happiest, most positive, fun,  and loving self-talk 26.2 runs with a BQ for next year has turned into one of the scariest and most confusing experiences I've ever had. Boston is a city full of chaos, confusion, shock and fear.  Along with plenty of love, tears, and gratitude at being okay.  Thank you for your love and concern.  More to come.  I will post updates on Facebook too.

Amanda

  9. Glad to hear you are okay! I had just gotten home from an awe-inspiring of cheering at mile 14 to turn on the news to the chaos of what had happened. So terribly tragic.

  17. Many thoughts and prayers for all ... and congrats on having what was before this event a great race and PR. There are no good words in times like these, other than that we all will somehow become closer as a running community. Stay safe and have a safe journey home.

  18. I'm so glad that you did a short post and that you, your husband and friends are all OK. I spent the day traveling and when I saw my husband he asked me if I knew about Boston. Then he said don't you know people running - yes, quite a few blogging friends.
I'm glad you had such a great race and I'm sorry that such a tragic event marred it.

  23. I thought about you after I heard of the tragedy (I learned about it late as I was out on a long run) and was so worried about you. I checked FB right away to find out if you were okay (I don't have your cell # anymore, I lost all my contacts). I am so relieved.

  26. Oh boy, I had no idea that you were THAT close at the time. The timing of the explosions and the emails had many of us confused. I am so relieved that you and W and AM and Jenn were all spared and kept safe. I can imagine the confusion and wish I could give you a big hug. Love you tons and hope you can settle in for good rest tonight.

  28. So glad you and your family are safe Amanda. You're one of the folks I follow that I knew was running yesterday, but I was confident you were speedy enough to be past the finish line area. I was relieved to see that you were okay. All of the victims are of course, in our hearts and prayers.

  30. I'm glad you're alright! Although I suppose 'alright' is relative right now. Because in a lot of ways no one is alright after such a terrible thing.
