Who knew that your kids' after school cartoon could stop you in your chores and make you feel so self conscious. Ha! This episode totally made me do a little self reflection about my "blogging". Gosh, I hope my friends don't see me as a "Muffy". But more importantly, I hope I don't turn into a Muffy with my blogging. I can see why many bloggers just keep their blog to their blog world and don't share with their non blogging friends. I can also see how your blog can end up taking over your life and keep you from actually LIVING and instead spend more time blogging about our living. Made me laugh and cringe all at the same time.
At one point Muffy goes to school and asks her friends "So, did you read my new blog yet?! Huh? Huh?" They all rolled their eyes and basically told her how boring it was and how nobody wants to read about what she ate for lunch or the new curtains she just put up. It was so funny to watch my kids' cartoon from my perspective.
Muffy is definitely the extreme. Hoping I'm far from a Muffy but I can see how easy it would be to cross that blog line and end up like Muffy and her big bad blog!
Happy Monday!
Amanda
That's funny, I used to watch that show with my sister when I would baby sit her. I don't tell many people that are close to me about my blog for that exact reason. I would much rather live my life with the ones I love and share my experiences with them first hand then have them read it online.
ReplyDeleteNow I'll call it the muffy situation, and just remind myself if I ever get out of control with my blogging to not be like muffy
This is funny. I think my husband kind of looks at my blog like this. There are a lot of things I leave out that deal with him so as to protect his privacy, since he's definitely not as on board with sharing as I am. There are times when I don't post my blog links on my facebook page just because I have this mental image of people doing just what Muffy's friends do. On the other hand, I know that a lot of my friends DO read it, and I've had quite a few friends start running or be inspired to be more active because of what I've shared. And, of course, linking it to where my real-life peeps (including my children, if they were ever interested) can read it definitely helps me refrain from over-sharing. Sometimes too much anonymity is dangerous! :)
ReplyDeletePretty funny! I am very self-conscious about spreading the word about my blog outside of "blog world." It took me several months to even tell my running partners it existed. Then, as it grew, I gained a bit of confidence. But even still, I don't talk about it much to people--don't want to be Muffy, for sure!
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha! Yikes…this might be me…the names were changed to protect the guilty :P.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be a 'Muffy.'
Wow looks like they did some new episodes since my kids watched!
ReplyDeleteYep, I keep my blog out of my personal non-cyber life....just better that way I think.
Hey love the header!
Haha, too funny!
ReplyDeleteI don't really like telling real-life friends about the blog. Family and hubs is all for now! May expand as the blog does...
Only a couple of people outside blogland know about my blog and I like to keep it this way:) Love Arthur shows.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! This is funny. Reminds me of when Ryan had a bunch of friends over and I was "blogging" on the couch unbeknown to them. They started talking about their English teacher (who they don't relate to very well) and her "stupid blog" and "who has a blog?" and "doesn't she have a life?" yada yada yada!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ana Maria and some of the others but you know that. I like to keep my blog separate. Better outlet for me that way:)
I doubt your friends see you as a Muffy-ha!
same here my blog is off limit to my family and non running friends. I dont even think my husband knows I write a blog for real.
ReplyDeleteGreat video. Adults can use blogs to be cyber bullies too... maybe this needs to go viral :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Sadly,I can kind of relate because when I catch up with my friends they all know what is going on with me before I even tell them because they are readers.
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny!!!
ReplyDeleteMy family seems to like my blog but it just seems so boring if you don't run and even if you do...is it really that interesting? I feel like it's more for me to vent and express and share than anything else, yet, I do love-love-love reading everyone else's running adventures!
xoxo
Gosh, I still need to send you that book...maybe by summer I can do it!
hilarious. i can't take a picture of ANYTHING anymore without my kids saying "you're taking that for your blog, aren't you mom?" why yes, yes i am children!! and you know i've got no problem posting links to my posts on fb--i've got no shame. but, that's the only way some of my family/friends know i've posted.
ReplyDeletelove your new header!
hahaah, I love Arthur and now I love it even more because of this.
ReplyDeleteThat was funny! I totally see both sides of the picture - Sometimes I hear someone talking about blogging and I think "get a life"...then I realize I have a blog :D
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows I have a blog. Most of the emails I receive start with Hey Julie - I just read your blog...and then they expound.
Mom & Dad, brother, aunts, friends...everyone is in the know about all the silly stuff I post - like the picture of my butt hanging out of the rip in my pants or how slow I ran my last 6 miler. Yep...exciting stuff...but they seem to enjoy it.
Very funny! When my kids were young, I had to read Arthur to them, now you can have them watch You Tube while you blog! Progress :-)...
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! very funny! I don't like to mention the blog to much to the 'outside' world lol
ReplyDeleteOK...Almost everyone I know knows I have a blog. I could appreciate keeping it just for blogland..Especially now that my dad reads it.
ReplyDeleteYES.
and my Grandpa too...
I don't know if I could ever stop blogging or they might get worried. Haha. So ...now my secret mission might have to become raina's secret blog. Hmmm.
I promise (cross my heart an hope to die) that I will tell you if you get boring as long as you promise me the same. So far you're not Muffy-like.
ReplyDeleteThe metamorphosis is complete...
ReplyDeleteFive posts in one day = Muffy.
I. am. Muffy.
Shit.
Haha. I have thought about this before... Both the "no one wants to hear random drivel" and the "need to take a timeout so I'm not living on the computer". I don't spend that much time on my own blog per se, I spend a good chunk reading/commenting on others though! And no offense but my real life will always trump making sure I'm all caught up on my Google Reader feeds :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like I have just substituted blogging for reading actual books. Well true or not it makes me feel better.
ReplyDeleteand I have only yelled, "Don't you read my blog" at one friend this month. :)
Crap, I think I am Muffy.
ReplyDeleteYou're not Muffy though if you were you'd have a lot of us understanding and not batting an eye about it! I sometimes feel bad when I behind on everyone's blogs, because these people have become my friends and I am interested in their lives, but my own family takes priority. It's funny, because we think of the people on our computers as not "real life" but they really are and just because we haven't met doesn't make the connection any less real. It's all about balance. And you're good at that.
ReplyDeleteI can't quite bring myself to watch it! I don't really publicize mine outside blogland either. Sometimes I'm even uncomfortable with hubby reading it although it was great when he was away from home for a week. He just read it to keep up to date and saved on phone calls!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! I certainly agree with finding the balance in LIVING a lot more in the world and with the people around you than on the computer world. Though I LOVE all my blog friends - I feel so blessed to that I have amazing people right in front of me. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI can't get the video here at work, but I get the gist I think :). I can't even get my PT to look at my PT dance video on my blog!!
ReplyDeleteha! i remember reading arthur when i was younger (like 2 weeks ago)! i love this post- what a great reminder!
ReplyDeleteThis episode is pretty funny...
ReplyDeleteI'm not confident enough in my blog and have not shared it outside of blog-land. Through blogs, I came in contact with a friend of a friend who also runs - and now we read eachother's blogs. And one of my real-life friends who runs knows about my blog. Other than that, nope. Not my husband, not my parents, not my other friends. It's enough that my parents are on facebook and they constantly comment to me about the facebook activity of my friends and me. Like some others commented, I don't think my hubs really "gets" blogging.
HILARIOUS and so true. I am only "muffy" to my husband. hee hee "honey did you read it yet? Huh? huh?" hahaha
