Running Bat Mama

Um, that strange line on my face that looks like sagging skin is actually a strand of hair.  At first I thought my face was falling.  Ah, gravity.

This bat mama just might be going on a run after this trick or treating business going on!  Garmin is on, stress ready to be released into the Halloween night, running shoes tied tight, and I'm already preparing to be running off the copious amounts of processed sugar that I will be consuming over the next few hours.  Okay, I won't be indulging that much but the run will still feel nice.

Training
In my last post, I talked about increasing mileage, strength training, training plans for Boston and really knowing myself as a runner.  I think the key here with me will be to really determine how I respond to an increase in mileage and I need to keep reminding myself to do this GRADUALLY.  I get really excited about something and then that sometimes leads to obsessing about it and then that leads to getting unbalanced....and...well, you get the picture.
Balance.
Gradual increase.
Continued learning.
Listening to my body!
Figuring out what works for me.

Inspiring Woman Inspiring Women (IWIW)
I'm excited to see some of you get in on the IWIW action!  This is a great way for all of us to find other blogs worth visiting and other women worth getting to know!  I hope to get my IWIW #2 out soon.  In the meantime, go check out the inspiring women that Lisa and Ashley write about!

Who will be "running off" some candy this week?  Or do you have amazing will power to resist all the sugary sweets floating around this time of year?  Having three kids makes it difficult to avoid the candy completely.  Although I try really hard to provide my kids with healthy food choices daily, I do allow them to indulge in some treats!  And this time of year, that's just part of the fun.  A good lesson in moderation and balance!

  2. What an adorable costume! Looks like you guys had good weather, too (there is SNOW on the ground in Boston right now).

I won't be running this week (except around the ER at work) but I'm hoping that baby-in-my-belly will help me process some of those yummy candy calories!

  3. Ha ha!! Great pic! I totally wussed out on the Halloween spirit this year!! Kids had a blast but Ma and Pa bailed on the costumes. Halloween just shouldn't fall on a Monday night...Staring at all this sugar and imagining the seconds I will lose on my marathon if I don't eat it....Hmmm-tough decisions-lots of good stuff this year! Ah heck, just talked myself into a Tootsie roll.

    Have a great run!!!

  6. Last year we had over 30 trick or treaters....so far zero this year. That large bag of candy from Costco is going to be bad news for me later....

  7. You look adorable! I am actually siting here wondering why there isn't a peanut butter cup in my mouth. I guess 'cause we're the losers who don't hand out candy.

  9. Believe it or not I hate candy. I mean I like a piece of dark chocolate once in a while but the smell of the candy that came home tonight makes me ill!!!!! Even the sounds of the wrappers irritates me.. I know I'm weird.

  10. Halloween's not big over here but I'm still feeling a bit of a sugar rush. Too much baking = too much tasting. Thank goodness for an early morning speed session.

  11. Love the picture! That;s a great costume for a race! And I'm glad you admit that while you try to feed your kids healthy you let them indulge on Halloween. And yes, I will be running off some indulgence tomorrow. :)

  12. Aw, you look great. Fun! :)

My candy eating is out of control, so tonight I decided on a 10-minute penalty for each piece of candy I eat after the first one. No, it's not enough to work off the calories, but it's inconvenient enough to hopefully make me think twice.

Good luck keeping yourself disciplined and increasing things gradually. Funny...you need to be disciplined so as not to overdo it, and I need discipline to get off my butt. :)

  14. You are rad!

I am almost SICK from sugar. I got passed by a neighbor in his car tonight who joked about burning off the sugar. He has NO idea. NO idea!!
    Carnivals, preschool playgroup parties, ugh!

OK...I need to go back a post of two. I don't want to miss anything training related!

  18. Nice costume!

I've been trying to eat chocolate in moderation - caved last night - too much and not enough will power:)

  19. haha! that is seriously the most amazing pic i have ever seen! no will power here so I will be running off some candy this week for sure!

  20. YOU LOOK AWESOME! I'm inspired as always--hope you and the fam had a happy halloween and you got your run in!

  21. That is the best picture! You really look like a super hero or super mom, which is even better in my book! And no, I have no willpower around the candy. I am working on it though!

  22. I love your costume! Did you run in it later?

I have less willpower than my kids around the Halloween candy. They had a few small pieces last night, and can have one every night after dinner this week. I am buying the rest off of them ($.10/piece) to take to my office and share.

  23. I LOVE it!!!! I have zero willpower! I had the hubby throw away the extra!

  24. That is a seriously awesome picture!

I cannot resist the candy. Lucky thing it is all going away very soon....
